 Mr. R. Baker, Head of Music
Mr. Baker is excited to start his eighth year as Music Head at Sherwood!
Graduating from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance, he then went on to complete a Diploma in Education from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Having played with many excellent professional groups across Ontario, Mr. Baker is keeping a busy schedule as both a full time music teacher and performer. He has played with such groups as: Hannaford Street Silver Band, Intrada Brass, The National Academy Orchestra, as well as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Bobby McFerrin and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as a youth performer.  In 1998, he performed with the United States National Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall with conductor Lukas Foss.  He can be heard on various recordings and on the radio with some of these groups.  He was also a concerto competition winner at the University of Toronto where he was soloist with the U of T Concert Band, and has also been a Trumpet Soloist with the University of Brock Wind Ensemble.  Mr. Baker played in the Hamilton and London stops with the Broadway Touring show of Hello Dolly starring Sally Struthers.

He is an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves where he is the Director of Music for the The Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry where he holds the rank of Captain.  Under his direction, the band has travelled to London, England where they performed at Horse Guards Parade for His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Mr. Baker is on Trumpet Faculty at the National Music Camp of Canada (www.nationalmusiccamp.ca), is a Secondary Music Teacher Facilitator with the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre (OELC),  teaches trumpet lessons privately and has been the trumpet faculty with the Canadian Music Conservatory in Toronto.
